The Father by August Strindberg

It is a story of gender war, particularly between a husband and his wife, and their daughter who was caught in the web of decision making which tore the couple apart. The father of the house became increasingly erratic. He’s driven mad by the uncertainty of paternity and manipulated by his wife Laura who sets up an unrelenting campaign against him to win control of their daughter Bertha, frowning at the unfairness of nineteenth-century marriage laws.
