Kareena’s Cross is a story of torture, courage, man’s inhumanity to human and breach of human right. A Chief tricked her daughter into believing that he was going to send her to school, but instead, secretly arranged for her to be married out. She attempted to run away but was apprehended and forcefully married out. That was the beginning of her tormented journey as she was ganged raped, widowed and accused of committing murder (of her husband), maltreated by her in-laws and was almost flown abroad for prostitution. She eventually surmounted these challenges and qualified as a lawyer, who returned to her village, in company of her medical doctor husband to educate the people of Toruama on the dangers of forced/early marriage.
